It’s considered the impossible task; enjoying yourself traveling on a shoestring budget. But, despite many people’s disbelief, it can and is done. You just need to know where to look for savings and how to keep your costs down. Trust me; I’ve done it! And I have some tips below to share with you.
Always Take the Bus
If there is a flight – take the bus. If there’s a boat – take the bus. How about a fast train? Take the bus. The bus is the cheapest way to explore the world, both over long distances and locally.
Never Eat Familiar Food
If you just keep looking for familiar signs when you eat, then you’re going to spend all of your money on food. Look for the street food vendor with the longest line of a congregation of people and eat there.
If you have a student card, use it everywhere you can. If you want to see the museum, ask for a discount, If you want to see a show, use the Groupon Coupons page for Ticketmaster to get cheap tickets. Whatever you want to do while you’re away, there is always a discounted alternative or option
Prepare to Share
Hostels are the cheapest places you can stay at. However, their cost comes at a cost. To save serious money you are going to need to share a room with a few other people. If you do choose this option, be sure to keep your personal items secure in the spaces provided.
An additional note: if you do choose a hostel, be sure that it isn’t a ‘Youth Hostel’. These will often have age limits for guests along with being quite loud and party oriented.
